hi
you are the most genius person in world...
I've been looking for a portable wlm in which my user data such as display pictures and emotions, contacts and every trace are saved in the same location as the single EXE file. simply i don't want to keep tracks about the emails am logging on my pc.
found the wlm lite that u can check in msgsh*it.com but unfortunately its not working on windows 7 and in another hand as Microsoft blocked all 2007 and 2008 versions of MSN its not working on vista or xp...
tried to look over the net for a such portable version till i found urs which is gr8 so far but...

1- wlm 9 is not working on my pc giving error code 800401fe which is: we can't sign you in to windows live messenger ..... the service is temporarily unavailable..
2- wlm 8.5 worked fine on xp waiting to try it on windows 7 but first there are some data stored in my documantes and settings folder called contacts with some data from the email i logged using it...
HOW CAN WE FIX THAT... I JUST WANT ALL MY DATA TO BE STORED IN A ONE PLACE.
AND WHAT ABOUT MULTI WLM PORTABLE SINCE I CAN'T OPEN TWO WLM AT THE SAME TIME...
that was working fine in the wlm lite of the msgsh*it.com

thanks hope that you'll reply as soon as possible :)
thanks

Hi brravoow

I wasn't able to replicate the Documents & Settings / Contacts folder which you have. I tested using WLM 2009 portable, but the folder isn't there on my PC.
Are you sure this wasn't created from a previous installation of Windows Live Messenger?
You should be able to delete this, without it re-appearing (as long as your running portable 2009).

In regards to error code 800401fe ... try deleting the data folders (Fonts, Stubs Windows Live Messenger) which the single EXE created.
Sometimes the first time it's run, the data gets corrupted... but deleting these folders will clear everything.
Once it signs in successfully for the first time, should be trouble-free.

You can have multiple WLM accounts signed in at the same time, but you need to run portable WLM in different locations.
Example:
Copy the portable EXE to C:\WLM1
Make another copy of the portable EXE in C:\WLM2

I've tried to keep them as "un-modified" as possible. They are just straight out portable versions of the real thing, with no code modifications - other than version string for earlier blocked versions.

thanks for ur quick reply well

1- as for the Documents & Settings / Contacts folder which I have its created whenever i log on with an email by portable wlm 8.5 with the name of the email am logging in, and even when i delete it and sing in again its created again... which leaves tracks about my email and need to delete it everytime am done from chatting ... :(

2- In regards to error code 800401fe in portable wlm 9... i deleted the data folders (Fonts, Stubs Windows Live Messenger) manyyyyyyyyyyyyy times and tried from several paths but its not working at allllllllllllllll :(

3- as for the multi wlm... yes discovered that it's possible ... but its better to have a multi from a single .exe

wish to have a reply from you soon... :) thanks

Portable applications such as WLM run in a virtual environment, but some user data will still be stored in the local user folder. In this case, it's the new communications platform Microsoft introduced in WLM 8.5 to prevent contact list issues. It's hard coded into the app, to store Contact cache in the local user directory. There's no way I can change it without breaking it, unfortunately it's the way 8.5 was designed.

Now for the error code 800401fe. I've found a solution...

Error Message: The service is temporarily unavailable. Error 800401f3 or 800401fe.

Resolution: Re-register the MSXML files.

(1.) Go to the Command Prompt by clicking "Start", click "Run", type "CMD" and click "OK". Copy and paste each line below hitting enter after each one.

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll

(2.) If the above doesn't fix your issue, visit http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en to reinstall the MSXML file.

I might consider polygamy when Microsoft release the next version of Windows Live Messenger... since it's running in a virtual environment and won't really matter.
I know it's handy... but for now, I've left all the code untouched and unmodified, except for the version string.
It was the way I intended it to be, people like to mod messenger they're own way, I just left it as is - how Microsoft provided it.

Is it the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7?

I've just uploaded a new 64-bit compatible version of WLM Portable.
This should fix all issues previously reported here.

Visit http://www.ncnblue.com/wlmportable/ and re-download your preferred version, now 64-bit compatible
